Practical Engineering

2" scale Clayton undertype steam wagon. Like the Sweetpea loco this engine needs little work to see it in steam. With my new found confidence in painting I have decided this is the next project to be finished. As can be seen from one of the photos of the boiler it is over ten years since any work has been carried out on this engine. The boiler was finished in 2002 and has passed its hydraulic test. There are two main changes needed to make the engine easier to to use. First being a clutch which needs to be manufactured. This clutch could also mean a new crankshaft. The second change will be to the chain drive to reduce the overal speed. This will be achived by adding an additional chain and sprockets to change the gearing ratio.
